Schachmatt and the New by Edgar Plaute

my working title for the time being “New Work / s” … I prefer linoleum and furnaced tiles (possibly black basalt stone slabs) … accurate specifications until the image submission possible … linocuts and inlaid works would deserve to get more attention and promotion of professional world … these techniques should be no longer relegated to the rear drawers and cerebral convolutions …

  1. Thanks so much for your submission. You are really accomplished in this media! And it is great to see this. I believe that you are choosing this media because this is what your creative process requires and I view this as art work just as valuable as the other media! It is not simple to create within the four sectiona, however this being said you have achieved a true balance of colors, tones and an exceptional rhythm which leads my eye out of the left hand corner. It is not very often that I have seen this combination of an even number – four sections that is transformed into a mastery of uneven objects and lines! I look forward to seeing more of your creations!

  2. Your technical skill with linocuts is evident by your ability to apply multi colors to this medium; a time consuming and demanding process. The idea of enlarging your work with multi panels indicates your ability to evolve your work and it becomes evident that you desire to push beyond the norms of this. medium. The linear aspect of the piece ties it together and the yellow back ground complimented by the pale violets provides a calm center from which the viewer can appreciate the various effects of the details within the piece. Well done.

  3. The Technique is difficult and highly professional hand can keep balance and proportion ; Edgar work can be highly appreciated; but too much technique oriented work sometime looses charm; it is a beautiful piece but more for Museum. He has worked hard to accomplice. Bravo.

  4. Edgar… I so look forward to the day you give your work freedom to speak for itself and not write in advocacy for linocuts. Relegation is trendy. There should never be the need to defend a work. It should stand on its own two feet and shout out loud and clear confident in its techncial prowess to say its piece on its own terms, not yours or mine. The more you protest on behalf of your work the less you allow it its own voice.

Hi Renee … I thank you for your constructive criticism and the trouble you try with me … this is very important for me! … I also thought that explanations are unnecessary … until I realized that even experts know remarkably little of the linocut technique … I saw myself
therefore forced to goe into details … a linocut of today has nothing to do with the art of our elementary school … I learned from prominent European painters to research exactly before starting the work and to write a story about … based on this story I’m working on … I have been motivated first by gicas linocuts … that only few people know … therefore my works show my progress in this art to more clearly … I ask you to accept the fact that the statements are important to me … and for as many professionals and some expert …
