Elements personification date from the ancient and pagan world and in all cultures, generally, for each element was linked one divinity. Here, instead, the artist points out “the girl” as water, fire, earth and air maiden and we can translate her as Mother Nature or like a symbol of that concept that sees each human being having inside this four elements. But Jan Ejsmontt chose a woman to represent all four the elements, maybe for her characteristic of engender Life: an ode to life, maiden in an abstract expressionist and naturalistic pictorial style, using a mythological and pantheist key.
