Northgate casualty by Suze Woolf

My immersion in the outdoor world makes me acutely aware of threats to it. While forest fires are naturally cyclical, global warming alters normal regimes. Insect invasions, erosion, microclimate temperature extremes and other changes increase their volatility. The remainders are simultaneously beautiful and disturbing. Watercolor used to be the medium of the well-off tourist — I demonstrate it as a medium of impact. Original Available

  1. I half anticipated this work to be painted bark. To discover it is watercolour of shaped paper makes it even more delightful because it becomes its own version of recycling beauty and decay; of rendering neglect and invasion through invention rather than appropriation. Even just the nature of identification is enough to spark a conversation between texture and rendering; of technique and expression; evoking the erosion of meaning and the meaningless-ness of pandering good intention. A tender rendering of multiple casualties, something I find rather thought provoking.
