artist Vered Terry

I needed to let my mom go after she died last May. I chose only nice pieces from the newspapers to work with, knowing they will not show anyway. I gave her sparrows. They were her favorite birds. Their name means FREEDOM, and this also showed me I chose the right birds. I painted my parents blue for merging with the sky and the sparrows – in their natural colors. I called this sculpture “Itgadal Veyitkadash Shmei Rabba “– the first line from “Kaddish”, (the Jewish requiem). I found a beautiful singer named Barbara Hendricks singing “Kaddish” … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itV6G41BHQo you can hear it here. (Unfortunately the sculpture was hang in between 3 walls, so the photos I took had limited angles).See more

  1. I like this view the best as the shadows interact with the sculptures. Your choice of color adds to the spiritual mood and the ascending and floating figure add impact to the composition. The sparrows add a symbolic reference to flight. The figures give the impression of movement and balance creating a feeling that intrigues the viewer to contemplate the artist’s meaning.

  2. Yes, your figures are not plastically true but your intent is much higher; We dim upon appearances to the benefit of feeling, poetry & spirit. If the silhouettes are raw, the expression of their attitude is speaking true about the soul impulse, the wait, the joy to be united again & love that fuses. It brings also an interesting contrast with the realistic sparrows; The one tipping your mother’s finger anticipating the touch is an absolute exquisite detail.
The shadow play upon the wall is quite interesting as well; It can be part of the work.
Your presentation is really moving & your work flies high as usual
