Mister Diablo by Stephen Kaldor

had a few words with Mister Diablo after his performance, he was a nice quiet guy and had no objection to me using his image as a possible painting subject. He told me his girlfriend was also an artist who painted wild abstracts. I assured him that my work was different. We parted as friends and I still thought that there was something deep and personal about him, Crisis? maybe.

  1. There are no contradictions here. The colors compliment the visual perception. The composition flows with a rhythm that brings the figure a life energy enhanced with an excellent depiction of light. The subjects surroundings, facial expression and anticipated reward for his actions indicated by the hat on the ground indicate the artists perception of the theme. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

  2. I appreciate the skill and technique you have in the media of oils! This is a well composed painting. The colors, balance, rhythm and lighting are excellent. The topic feels jaunty! A little performance in the sun with the hat waiting for change! You are to be commended on your art language as well, which I feel is very authentic. Thank you for your submission!

  3. A photographic framing painting where a man is pictured absorbed in his performance on the street. There is something metaphysic in this atmosphere and a sort of unease envelopes the observer. Silence becomes visible and makes all magic. Individual loneliness is told using bright and vivid colors, a sharping light and the special geometry talk about the lack of communication among people. The spectator is put in front of a naturalistic subject that is symbolic at the same time and that seems refrained by a magic estrangement sense.

  4. Compliments Stephen, a fascinating portrait. The unseen threat and portentous foreshadowing of possible danger is as tangible as it is atmospheric. Has something of an unspoken ‘horror’ which stylistically reminds me of Steven King novels. Very interesting storytelling.

  5. Stephen Not too much left for me to say after reading all the great comments posted. So I will say I second each of those comments.
You have a wonderful realistic style with such great attention to detail. I esp. like the expression on his face of total self-absorption

What more can add in praise than what the others have already said so I’ll just Second all their words.
Congratulations for being Best & well deserved, you thought out of the box about what the word Crises could bring to your thoughts. The expression on Mr. D’s face is one of total self-absorption, he knows he’s being watched, but that isn’t really important.

  7. Thank you all for your kind comments, they were quite overwhelming. I am sure Mister Diabolo would have appreciated them, I most certainly did…
    Thanks. Stephen
