The Plucked Chicken by Antonino Gambino
This is a metaphor, where the chicken, that is not anything else other than the tired city poor man to pay the manifold taxes, talks to his political of government. The Plucked Chicken. But how much am I/you/they? Boh! They are as that the account is lost. As another tax, has sucked me up to the last drop of blood, I am anaemic. And to pay the other taxes, thinks of us the Providence, the impportante that ruin me the existence. Because otherwise, the chicken throws out the claws and “Aquila” it becomes, and of all the policis of the government, children of Wings Babà and the labor unions, so much makes you frighten how small small become and food for its belly transformed you. And’ useless to continue, us chickens understood abbaimo, but truth is that the satiated one has never believed to whom doesn’t eat, the rich one to the poor man, the drunk one to the tidy one. Make you the examination of conscience and beat you the hand in the breast and the evening in the bed when you sleep, instead of being with an open eye and the other closed left the place to the smile. This I wanted to tell you when I have realized the picture to all of you political of government and labor unions, but since I knew, already in departure, that you would not have understood anything, thanks to yours to know, has written you everything in these four poor and simple lines. Reflection on a crisis can become a work of beauty as depicted by this piece. A wonderful play of patterns and colors and the chicken is like the icing on the cake. The technique is masterful and a tribute to the medium. The Array of feathers emanating from the chicken burst across the canvas like the ether that permeates and binds the whole of the beauty in nature.
First of all, I wish to complement you on your use of wooden tarsia! You are truly gifted in the way you create with this wood! The composition is excellent and shows that you have an authentic art language. The work is confident and the elements of composition are delightfully represented. The rhythm is found in the circular motion of the feathers! The colors are rich and full with the green background giving room for the red to bounce! I really like the center with the grounded earth tones and deeper blues and purples. The balance is exquisite, truly a master at work here. The Plucked Chicken as a analogy for the inequities between tax payer and governments, between rich people and the poor people is a good one! This art work represents crises of poverty in the world. Thanks so much for your submission.
Crozza would LOVE you ! There are rare moments even in art when context is everything. Signor Gambino Complimente, a spectacular idiom, understanding as I do this analogy from the ‘inside out’ as it were, living in Italy as I do in the current economic and political climate of crisis and austerity. This work marvelously captures the idiomatic expression ‘Lo so mio pollo’ ( I know my chicken) and its deeply acerbic satiric reference to the current non-state of affairs in Italy speaks volumes. The spectacle of flying colours itself makes a feast of farce and as for the fate of the chicken, well the Italians understand the irony between chicken stuffing and having their proverbial economic goose cooked. The theatricality of this work captivates the eye while underscoring the caustic reality to which it so charmingly alludes. I love this. Bravo!.
