Picasso’s Lst Supper with a few of the wives and other guest by Vered Terry

…as for emotions – I’d say mainly joy, but having Guernica in the background makes it a bit awkward. Choice of Picasso can be random, but I do remember what he did to Velasquez, so paying back does not bother my conscience.

  1. Regardless of the piece being composed of images from the work of Da Vinci and Picasso, I find it very intriguing. It makes a statement and the composition does not look contrived but is actually very beautiful in its arrangement and has an alluring impact on the mind with such an array of color imposed over the Guernica background of primarily gray tones. The gray tones impose a simultaneous contrast adding a luminous strength to the colors in the image. I would consider this combination a very successful experiment and would encourage you to attempt this in one of your paintings.

  2. It is interesting to see where your creative process is joyfully taking you! The dichotomy of Guernica in the back ground in gray tones with the colorful “span the centuries” art works somehow brings a balance to this composition. This speaks to me of our human condition and the many cycles our cultures move through.

  3. I’m not really fond of iconoclastic images but I value your creativity & artistic merit. Iconoclast representations of “The Last Supper” are countless so it became a commonplace; It’s the curse & privilege for the great to be followed. In fact, iconoclasm became a contemporary marker in art, politics, & formatted mainstream thinking.
Huge is the gap betwen the first Eucharist -one of the highest mystery of christian faith- & its disturbance under a claim for gender parity amidst the holly assembly whom I confess to be quite masculine.
No one around seems to care much about these creatures from another dimension anyway for if they bring raised colours let’s admit Picasso rendered few justice to their beauty but a grotesque depiction. Picasso himself looks like a greyish ghost despite prominent size & placement.
I like the see-through screen of Guernica for it brings intersting animation in shapes & shades. As everything seems bound to fall from its pedestal today, let’s share this; “Guernica” became an “icon” of art supposed to be a plead against war crimes Picasso never witnessed. He left Spain with no return two years before the civil war & the painting was a public commission he achieved from a feature published in the New York Times. Picasso was too busy careering then to engage himself in the conflict unlike Ernest Hemingway (severely injured..), Georges Orwell, Federico Garcia Lorca (executed), Robert Capa or Georges Bernanos
To couple Guernica with The last Supper may not be innocent & declaring religions are an occasion for bloodshed in your comment within a group discussion seems to me a bit short; If the spanish church officially supported Franco’s fascist regime against communist atheism know many of its members joined the republican forces accordingly to their christian ideal to fight aside jews, communists, anarchists, many writers, americans, hungarians, french citizens. So realities of war, spanish or not are complex. & what about organized poverty & iniquity as a fuel for it today?
I appreciate the well determined quantity of additions you brought in colour & shapes, as well the opportunity for a debate should it be “politically inaccurate”. Thanks Vered..
